Easy Reads

 

Beezus and Ramona (Beverly Cleary)-Beatrice Quimby has so much trouble with her little sister Ramona, that she decides she does not like Ramona at all.

 

Stone Fox (John Reynolds Gardiner)- Willy discovers that Grandfather needs 500 dollars to pay off back taxes on the farm, or they will lose it. In a daring plan, Willy enters the National Dogsled Race, and stakes everything on the wild hope that he can outrun the best dogsled racers in the country.

 

Grade Level Appropriate

 

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (Judy Blume)-Peter finds his demanding two-year-old brother an ever increasing problem.

 

Shiloh (Phyllis Reynolds Naylor)-When he finds a lost beagle in the hills behind his West Virginia home, Marty tries to hide it from his family and the dog’s real owner, a mean-spirited man.

 

Charlotte's Web (E. B. White)- This novel tells the story of a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte.

 

Sideways Stories from Wayside School (Louis Sachar)- Humorous episodes from the classroom on the thirtieth floor of Wayside School, which was accidentally built sideways with one classroom on each story.


Challenging

 

Bridge to Terabithia (Katherine Paterson)- The life of a ten-year-old boy in rural Virginia expands when he becomes friends with a newcomer who subsequently meets an untimely death trying to reach their hideaway, Terabithia, during a storm.

 

Bud, Not Buddy (Christopher Paul Curtis)-  Ten-year-old Bud, a motherless boy living in Flint, Michigan during the Great Depression, escapes a bad foster home and sets out in search of the man he believes to be his father--the renowned bandleader, H.E. Calloway of Grand Rapids.
